Insane flexibility/upper body rotation. That’s where the power comes from.
    Stop at 0:11, it’s freakish!

    @Ramon424242

To give you an idea, in a baseline rally, I give the edge to Gasquet in front of Djokovic’s backhand and, on any court but clay, I think he’s able to knock on even Nadal’s forehand. From the baseline it’s an immense shot, but the thing is that’s it’s almost like a second forehand. He’s got lesser part however: Federer’s got the best backhand on the run or off the half-volleys.

In terms of power, he outdo anyone; in terms of versatility, he doesn’t.

So much talent. Too bad he is such a party animal.

Is Gasquet’s backhand better than Kuerten’s or Gaudio’s?

  • By jhgosnell, July 27, 2010 @ 10:53 pm

nice, but very long to set up…i think federer’s is a quicker version?

@MIXMASTAPWN look at the preparation backswing. If I were on the other side of the net I would think his preparation suggests a slice and then WHAM..

@ZZR1400GREY but the beauty of a one handed against a big hitter is that you can just block it back

  • By Kiasko, July 28, 2010 @ 1:23 am

Double handed back hand is probably better than single overall. Double handed is basically ur non dominants forhand with the aid of ur dominant for stability. Strength of tennis swings mostly dont come from the arms, it comes from the rotation of ur chest and the rest of your body. But i like single handed backhand, it looks cool. It gives me more satisfaction wen i hit good singlehanded backhands than double handed.

Beautiful movement but requires to much time to prepare, not good to win points against a big hiter!

Gasquet was getting very low to take this low backhand on the rise.

beautiful!! its so wierd that he looks so similar to justine henin..

  • By joanmiarnau, July 28, 2010 @ 6:41 am

best backhand in history was GASTON GAUDIO´s…he won RG´s matchpoint with it…plus it has much more grace than this bowling shot we´ve just witnessed…

  • By FairwayJack, July 28, 2010 @ 7:26 am

That was a thing of beauty

  • By wamici, July 28, 2010 @ 8:09 am
