Gasquet Secures Third Round

Richard Gasquet has made his way to the third round of the French Open. He secured a straight set victory over Carlos Berlocq of Argentina yesterday. The Frenchman won the match by 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-4.

Being the local boy, Gasquet had the support of a large section of crowd which was out there to watch the match and he didn’t disappoint any of those people.

Yes, he was given a bit of fight by Berlocq at the start, but, as the match progressed, Gasquet kept taking it in his grasp.

Gasquet, who has a fantastic time on the tour off late, hasn’t had a great record at Roland Garros. He has never managed to go past the pre quarter final round here. He would like to do that this time around and it’s very much possible with the kind of rhythm he is in.

In the first set of the match between Gasquet and Berlocq, both the players committed quite a few mistakes on their serves. As a result, both got broken a couple of times and the set went into the tie breaker which Gasquet clinched by a narrow margin.

The Frenchman, however, kept making errors on his serve in the following set as well, but, he was lucky that Berlocq couldn’t take advantage of any of the break opportunities that went his way.

Gasquet got only one break opportunity in the second set and he latched on that to seal the set by 6-4.

In the decider, for a change, Gasquet served fantastically well and didn’t let his opponent get even a single break point. He himself got a breakthrough though just like the previous set and won the decider by the same margin of 6-4 to finish off the match.

In the next round, Gasquet will take on Fernando Verdasco.
