GASQUET DEFEATS KUKUSHKIN

Richard Gasquet has defeated Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan in the second round of the Rogers cup. Gasquet, who has been given 14th seed in this competition, looked in fine form and defeated Kukushkin easily in the straight sets by 6-3, 7-5. Gasquet took just 85 minutes to knock the Kazakhstan player out of the tournament.

Both the players made a good start and held their service in the first five games. But, Gasquet broke the service of Kukushkin in the sixth game and then held his service in the next game to make the score 5-2. He didn’t lose the advantage after that and held his service in the ninth game to win the first set by 6-3.

In the second set, Kukushkin got the first breakthrough in the sixth game to make the score 4-2, thrilling those Khazakh fans who were betting at betvictor.com on their compatriot. But, he wasn’t able to keep that lead till the end. Gasquet broke his service in the seventh game to make the score 4-3. In the next three games, both the players held their service and at the end of the 10th game, the scorecard was showing 5-5. Gasquet got the second breakthrough in the 11th game and then held his service in the 12th game to win the second set by 7-5.

Gasquet had performed brilliantly in the London Olympics. He wasn’t able to win a medal in the singles competition, but, he won bronze medal in the doubles competition by playing with Julien Benneteau.

In the post match press conference, Gasquet told BetVictor that he was not at his best in the match and he has to work hard on his service before the third round match. Gasquet served three double faults in the match. In the third round, Gasquet will play against Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic.
